To all Presidents of Organizations who
are Civic Federation Members
I would like to invite you to participate in Neighborhood Day 2000, on behalf of the Civic Federation and our two co-sponsors, the County Council of PTA’s and the Neighborhood Conservation Advisory Committee. We have moved the event to spring, and this year it will be held on Saturday, May 13th.
This year’s event is the County’s Millennium Celebration. We are anticipating a grand day, with numerous neighborhood events in the morning followed by a celebration of Neighborhood Heroes at Ballston Common Mall at noon, then a big parade at 2 PM. The parade will be our biggest and best yet, with the fun-loving Shriners, Fort Meyer units neighborhood floats, lawnmower drill teams, horses and many more participants.
We hope that your organization will participate in the festivities. Again this year we are encouraging civic associations and other organizations to sponsor joint events with neighborhood schools, as a means of bringing us closer to our neighborhood PTA’s. If you need ideas, I am attaching a list of last year’s events for your information. Parade floats can be as simple as a sign on a garden cart, or you can use a car, pickup truck or trailer. Add some crepe paper, or use chicken wire, paste and newspaper and the sky’s the limit! We have a Web page at www.bscl.org/neighday.htm in case you need instructions on building a float.
I hope your organization will participate in this celebration of our Arlington neighborhoods.
Sincerely yours,
Randy Swart, President
