Fort Myer Celebrates Arlington Neighborhood Day
The Fort Myer Military Community invites all Arlington residents to
participate in its 7th Annual Arlington County Neighborhood Day Celebration
on May 8, at 6:30 p.m. at Fort Myer on Summerall Field. In the event of
inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. A weather call will be made
at 3:00 p.m. the day of the event. Call (703) 696-3283 for more
information. This is the event that caps off a full morning of neighborhood
events and an afternoon parade from Clarendon to the Courthouse.
This year's celebration promises to be rich in military history and
tradition. The Fort Myer Military Community is proud to present a
time-honored tradition, the Twilight Tattoo" The Twilight Tattoo ceremony is
a colorful military sunset pageant performed by the 3rd U.S. Infantry
Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S. Army Band and featuring the Army Drill
Team, the Fife and Drum Corps, and the Army Chorale. Soldiers perform in
period uniforms helping to bring American history to life recalling where America's Army has been, where it's today and where it's going tomorrow. The theme this year for our military tattoo is Youth Leadership.
Bring the entire family, sit under the setting sun at Fort Myer, and enjoy the history of America's Army as it unfolds before your eyes. Visit the Caisson Platoon stables and museum. Static displays will be set up from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The event is Free and open to the public (no tickets required).
To enter the Fort, the gate at 2nd St South will allow cars in, while the Pershing Drive gate will be open to pedestrians only. You can ask the MP at the gate for directions to Summerall Field. Free tee shirts will be given to the first 500 to arrive (after 5 PM). No tickets are required.
Please note that the security situation can impact events at Fort Myer at any time. If there are indications of increased security in the Washington region, please check the Fort Myer Web site or call (703) 696-3283.
