A Message About Neighborhood Day 2004
From the Chairmen of the
Arlington County Board and the
Arlington County School Board
Dear Arlingtonian:
Arlington will observe its 8th Annual Neighborhood Day on Saturday, May 8th. This year’s theme is: "We Are the Neighborhood," and we invite you to join us in celebrating our pride in the vitality and diversity of our neighborhoods. Please save this date as a time to hold an event in your neighborhood or to take part in a community service project.
Several annual Neighborhood Day events have already been planned, including the Arlington Community Hero Awards, the Fort Myer Military Community Twilight Tattoo Ceremony, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington’s Walk for Animals, and, of course, the annual Neighborhood Day Parade.
The parade will begin at 2 p.m. and travel down Wilson Boulevard from the Clarendon Metro Station to the Courthouse area, followed by a multicultural concert at the end of the route.
Once again, the County will offer free trees to civic associations interested in neighborhood tree-planting activities. To reserve trees, please contact Jamie Bartalon in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Resources at 703-228-7747 or jbartalon@col.arlington.va.us.
Explore the many ways in which you and your group can participate! You can sponsor a neighborhood or County-wide event, take part in the parade – a highlight of the day’s activities – or just come out and be a spectator. A registration form for your neighborhood event and the parade is enclosed. Please remember that all events and parade participants must be registered by Friday, April 2. If you would like your event publicized on the County’s website, please notify the Neighborhood Day Steering Committee by this date.
For additional information on Neighborhood Day activities, please contact Todd DuBois in the County Manager's Office at 703-228-3969 or by email at tdubois@arlingtonva.us, or Jeanne Logtens in the County Board Office at 703-228-3155, jlogtens@arlingtonva.us or visit www.civfed.org/neighday.htm.
Remember, "We Are the Neighborhood," and on May 8th, we look forward to celebrating with you all the things that make Arlington a great place to live, work and play!
Sincerely,
Barbara Favola, Chairman
Arlington County Board
Frank Wilson, Chairman
Arlington County School board
